Summary

Chicagoland Adaptive Climbing is a partnership between Adaptive Adventures and the Shirley Ryan AbilityLab. We provide opportunities for persons with physical disabilities and their loved ones to enjoy the sport and lifestyle of climbing. We provide instruction, adaptive gear, plenty of encouragement and a cool community of people to help reach new heights.

Description

Join Adaptive Adventures and the Shirley Ryan AbilityLab for a fun evening of adaptive climbing where our trained staff and volunteers will provide equipment and teach you the skills you need to ascend to new heights! With adaptive techniques and equipment, we make climbing accessible to a wide range of abilities!

We are currently accepting participants into two different sessions (6:00 - 7:15 or 7:15 - 8:30). Participants must come at the session time they sign up for. If you come earlier or later than your allotted time, we may not be able to accommodate you.

You MUST register to attend! If you show up without registering, we will not be able to accommodate you. Please arrive on time.

COSTS:
Participant: $10.00 for Civilian w/ Disability (Paid through registration).

Free for Veteran w/ Disability.

Free for Volunteers thanks to the generous support of First Ascent climbing gym.

Price includes essential climbing equipment, instruction, and lots of fun!

Thanks to the generous support from our sponsors, donors, and partnership with SRALAB/First Ascent gym, we are able to keep these costs extremely low and provide scholarships for those in need.

VOLUNTEERS:

Volunteers must sign up for a specific role. Please do not sign up for a roll you do not feel comfortable in. Volunteers will stay for both sessions. Please register to attend and arrive on time.

All volunteers new to First Ascent will need to complete a belay check with the gym. If you are a new volunteer who has never belayed before, you will be required to take a 90-minute “Learning the Ropes” class prior to belay as a volunteer. Adaptive Adventures, Shirley Ryan AbilityLab, and First Ascent have an agreement to waive the fee of the training course for volunteers. Please select the class you are available for HERE and contact Lisa Ragins (lisa@faclimbing.com) in order to waive the fee. If none of the listed times fit your schedule, please let Lisa know and she will work with you to complete the class.

REGISTER:
Registration is required to ensure that we have enough volunteer support and the appropriate equipment for you to have a successful evening!  Registration will close at 4:00pm on the day of the event.

Beginning October 1, 2021, the Shirley Ryan AbilityLab is mandating that all staff, volunteers, and participants be vaccinated in order to participate in any sport programs. As the climbing program is a partnership between Adaptive Adventures & the Shirley Ryan AbilityLab this policy must be followed by all participants. Please complete your vaccination verification HERE or contact Demi Madden for more information.
