· Get outside to be active

Schedule

Tuesday, April 18, 5pm – 7pm

Tuesday, April 25, 5pm – 7pm

Who Can Attend?

This is an event meant for children with disabilities and their families that reside in DuPage County. It is open to any ability level. Whether you have an amputation, spinal cord injury, visual impairment or limited mobility due to CP, SB, MS, MD or other physical conditions, we have opportunities for you! Adaptive Adventures will bring a trailer full of adaptive bikes and will fit you with the bike that best suits you.

What Can I Expect?

Please meet us at our Trailers near the Gazebo at the Archery Range within Blackwell Forest Preserve. This is best accessed off the Butterfield Rd entrance. We will get you signed in and fitted with a helmet as we fit you with the cycle that best suits your needs. We have side by side cycles, hand cycles, tandem cycles, recumbent cycles and traditional bicycles to get you moving. We will instruct you on its use and get your parent(s) or guardian set up with a bike as well so you can ride together if you choose. You will be grouped with volunteers that will guide you along the path. We will choose a route that suits you best so you can return on time and get the best experience you desire.

How Should I Dress & Things to bring?

Come dressed in comfortable athletic attire to enjoy a bike ride (think breathable, moisture-wicking), closed toe shoes, and easily removable layers (weather dependent). Adaptive Adventures will provide adaptive equipment and helmets. Feel free to bring a water bottle. If you utilize any adaptive equipment or braces, please bring/wear those as well so we may assess their safety and use for performing on the bikes.

Timeliness

Please arrive at 4:30pm to check in and begin getting fitted for a bike.  If you cannot attend, we kindly ask that you give us 24 - 48-hr notice.
