Midwest Ski and Snowboard NEW Volunteer Orientation/Training - Illinois

**PLEASE NOTE THAT YOU ONLY NEED TO ATTEND ONE DRYLAND TRAINING SESSION: EITHER 11/28 OR 11/29**

SHORT DESCRIPTION

Fitting clients in the proper equipment takes time and is possibly the most important aspect of the lesson. If they're not fitted properly, it will create added difficulty for the lesson, injuries are more likely to occur, and the level of enjoyment will decrease. The more people who have a better understanding of what disabilities we work with, how we decide which equipment is best to utilize, and how to get a proper fitting means we ALL get out on the slopes faster!

GOALS

• Discuss the variety of disabilities we serve and etiquette in working with them

• Introduce adaptive equipment utilized during the ski & ride program

• Learn how to fit a skier/rider into their equipment & how to adjust to get the best form

SCHEDULE

Training will be at the Adaptive Adventures office in Schaumburg, IL. We will begin at 6:00pm and run through 9:00pm. Light refreshments will be provided. Please reach out to the contact below with any dietary restrictions.

WHO CAN ATTEND?

Any volunteer who wishes to learn MORE and receive an introduction to the equipment our clients ski with! Concentration will be on NEW Volunteers.

WHAT CAN I EXPECT?

Meet the Adaptive Adventures Staff and other volunteers to learn basic knowledge of working with people with primary physical/visual disabilities through our adaptive skiing and snowboarding program.

HOW SHOULD I DRESS?

This training will be held indoors so dress as you please.

TIMELINESS

We make every effort to adhere to our schedule. We ask that you respect the scheduled times and arrive no later than 6:00pm. If you are going to be late, please let us know.
