Short Description

Join Adaptive Adventures, Chicago Park District, and Shirley Ryan Ability Lab for a fun evening of adaptive climbing where our trained staff and volunteers will provide equipment and teach you the skills you need to ascend to new heights! With adaptive techniques and equipment, we make climbing accessible to a wide range of abilities!

Goals

· Learn climbing skills and adaptive equipment/techniques

· Foster an amazing sense of community, trust, courage and accomplishment.

· Break through barriers and summit to new heights.

Schedule

We are currently accepting participants into two different sessions (6:00 - 7:15 or 7:15 - 8:30). Participants must come at the session time they sign up for. If you come earlier or later than your allotted time, we may not be able to accommodate you. You MUST register to attend and registration will close every Monday at 3:00pm CST.  If you show up without registering, we will not be able to accommodate you. Please arrive on time.

Who Can Attend?

Climbing can be easily adapted to almost any ability level. We have opportunities for anyone with a primary physical or visual disability!

What Can I Expect?

We will cover the basics of rope work, climber movement, and adaptive techniques and equipment, so that a first-time or seasoned climber can come and enjoy the thrill of climbing. Benefits of rock climbing include physical and mental aspects such as practice of fine motor skills, coordination of movements, balance, and core control as well as problem solving and mental focus. We will focus on every participant as an individual and encourage each climber to push their unique and personal comfort zones.

Registration is required to ensure that we have enough volunteer support and the appropriate equipment for you to have a successful evening! Thanks to the generous support from our sponsors, donors, and partnership with First Ascent, we are able to keep these costs extremely low and provide scholarships for those in need. Cost is $10.00 for a Civilian w/ Disability (paid at time of registration) and FREE for Military Veteran w/ Disability. Price includes essential climbing equipment, instruction, and lots of fun!

Volunteers must sign up for a specific role. Please do not sign up for a roll you do not feel comfortable in. Volunteers will stay for both sessions. Please register to attend and arrive on time.

How Should I Dress & Things to bring?

Climbers are encouraged to wear comfortable and flexible clothing. Equipment is provided, including helmet, harnesses and shoes.

Timeliness

Participants must come at the session time they sign up for. Please arrive on time. If you come earlier or later than your allotted time, we may not be able to accommodate you.
