Summary
Description
**This is a closed program for Craig Hospital patients and alumni only.**
Due to incredible growth and the nature of this program being an "introduction" to rock climbing, priority for climbing will be in the following order:
1. Craig Hospital inpatient and outpatient participants new to the climbing program.
2. Craig Hospital graduates who are new to the climbing program.
3. Craig Hospital patients and alumni returning to the climbing program and who have registered with either Craig Hospital staff or with Adaptive Adventures.
4. Craig Hospital graduates who attend without prior registration to the event.
We will cover the basics of rope work, belay commands, climber movement, and gym etiquette so that a first time climber or seasoned veteran, can become confidant in the vertical environment. The benefits of climbing have been proven to help a wide range of disabilities such as PTSD, amputees, and TBI's. We welcome any and all disabilities and look forward to giving back to our community. Rock climbing includes physical and mental aspects such as practice of fine motor skills, coordination of movements, balance, and core control as well as problem solving and mental focus. We will focus on every participant as an individual and encourage each climber to push their unique and personal comfort zones. All participants are welcome regardless of age, gender, or ability. No experience or equipment needed! Climbers are encouraged to wear comfortable and flexible clothing. Equipment is provided, including harnesses and shoes. **Participants must be able to follow directions and effectively communicate with or without assistance provided by themselves to be eligible for Adaptive Adventures programs**
